Vision: Warning! Freeway Merging

Portland, Oregon (Early 2002)

In this vision (while sitting at my desk), I saw a small freeway going in one direction. I then saw an old bearded grey haired man standing in front of an off ramp with a large sign that said, "WARNING! The freeway you are about to merge onto ends in 2 miles. This is the last off ramp." Then the freeway that basically had been going straight veered left and went under a much larger (also one direction) freeway that was elevated above ground. The first smaller freeway then came alongside the left of the larger freeway, merged and became the 2 left lanes of the larger freeway. The new now much larger freeway traffic was very crowded and moving very fast.

Shortly after the freeway merge, I could see 2 more off ramps on the right but the traffic was so pressed and moving so quickly that no one from the first small freeway was able to cross over the traffic to exit after the merge. (They had been warned) The only people who were able to exit after the merge were those who were on the large freeway that were in the far right lane and were in that lane because they were not confident because of the speed and press of the traffic.

The now very large freeway got higher and higher above ground and a few miles ahead began to slope downwards so I couldn't see the freeway further away anymore. Just over the rise to my utter shock, the freeway ended. (as though it had never been finished) No one could stop in time cause they couldn't see that it ended until it was too late. The cars were just running right off the end and crashing to the ground way below. Then I was drawn back to the prior off ramps and saw that they led to a narrow straight service road that was running alongside the freeway. It went on forever. There was something very beautiful and safe about it even though it was just a plain old single lane service road. Then it ended.

Interpretation? 
Please note that  the scripture says, "We see in part and know in part..." Keep that in mind with any interpretation of any dream/vision presented.

One of the impressions I was left with right after this vision was about the "christian" political movement (ie "The Moral Majority", etc, etc) and how it had basically evolved and merged with the Republican Party. But, I had the sense that it was much deeper than that. The merger is also with the political party system itself.

The desire to stand up politically on moral issues became a great attraction for many, many christians years ago. So much so that it became a like it's own freeway which, at first, seemed to be running in a straight line. A very influencial force. That "movement" however, has been veered off by the freeway it has been on and and has been coming "under" a much larger political system and about to merged with it becoming one freeway. One that no christian can agree with and walk with God on. So much so that the Lord is warning now to take the off ramp and exit before it is too late. Before being fully locked into that system with no way out.

That political system (and our influence over it as long as we are a part of it) is about to end as we know it.

It used to be that "christian" truth and moral concepts were influencing politics but what has happened is that the freeway flow is now influencing many "christians" far, far more than "christians" are influencing it. What's even worse and what God is now dramatically warning about is that whole flow is about to come "under" the authority of a much larger political "power" and like all freeways, its the freeway that  determines where the traffic goes not the vehicles on them. You either go with the flow or you have to get off. There really isn't any other choice.

One thing I must state here is that although the vision has great pertinence to what is going on now, time wise, it also can be related to in another way. We are all at different places in this vision. Some are just entering onto the original freeway. Others are at a place in it where we have come under the system and unfortunately others have been merged into it so much so that they may never be able to get off it. (They have invested too much of their faith in it to get off now.) One cannot point fingers at another believer and say exactly where they are at with the Lord in this. We need to take a look at ourselves before the Lord on this, not judge others by it.

There is one facet of this vision I need to point out. That is that just before the major freeway ends, it's ascent becomes a descent. We are seeing a tremendous descent right now in the state of party politics in the USA right now. It is almost disfunctional...

One of the great failings of christianity as a whole is our inability to discern when God is through with something or has moved on. Long after He has moved on, we are still hanging on to what He did yesterday. The results of that tendency are the myriad of incomplete and partial works of God strewn everywhere in christiandom. To God, not a very pretty picture. We are called to move with Him, to follow Him, not become historical monuments along the side of a freeway.
